The Gem's Article on Cowbridge Fashion
Seven days ’til Cowbridge Fashion Show!
COWBRIDGE Fashion Week, which is just one week away, is promising the longest catwalk in Britain on Thursday, October 8.
Esther Hitchcock of Jon Ian – one of the three fashion committee members along with Sue Marshall of Lois, Ned Wen Evans of Havana – explained: “We’re having a ‘Champagne Trail’ on the Thursday evening with a parade starting at 6.15pm at which shops will be able to show off their fashions and designs. “There will be a red carpet outside the shops which will make the parade the longest catwalk in Britain!” A total of 39 businesses are taking part in the extravaganza! Esther said: “People will be able to have some champagne and browse from shop to shop – it’s an event which shows people that despite the recession we’re fighting back and providing a unique shopping experience. “There are probably more designer items in Cowbridge than Cardiff, and it is great to see so many local people pulling together to put on such a great event. “There will be street entertainers and dance groups. “Aubrey Parsons is providing music on the evening, and it will be piped throughout the town. “One thing we can guarantee is that if it rains the evening’s entertainment will definitely go on.” To give you a small flavour of what is going on: Karma Beauty is promising a 1920s ‘Flapper Night’. Oscars is providing champagne with every adult meal. En Vogue says that ‘For one night only there will be an XFactor singer’. Bar 44 will be making up Fashion Week cocktails. Jeyes is putting on a champagne party. Jon Ian will present a ‘Bollywood Night’. Pebble is putting on a Mama Mia night and will have live window models. Visage is going continental with a ‘Spanish Night’. Havana will entertain with ‘Mardi Gras Night’ and live band Cocama. Lois expects a visit from 007 himself with a James Bond-themed evening. The late night entertainment and shopping will go on until 9pm. An indication of the popularity of Cowbridge Fashion Week is shown by the fact that a ladies’ fashion lunch, hosted by Justina Simpson and Jonathan Hill, at the Bear Hotel for 180 people has already sold out. But fear not, there is still lots to see on Friday which has been designated ‘Designer Bargain Day’ – The Bear Hotel and Town Hall will be running designer sale rooms. Esther said: “There are still some tickets available for the climax of fashion week, a black tie charity dinner event featuring a catwalk show, live band and raffle on behalf of Ty Hafan.” Esther laughed: “There will be some local talent too! Cowbridge ladies, and men, will model clothes sold in the town, and the make-up and hair-dos will be provided by local businesses.” If anyone would like to book tickets they should contact John Ian on 01446 775226. Ty Hafan was nominated as Cowbridge Fashion Week’s chosen charity because of the help it gives families across Wales. Sue Marshall, one of the organisers of the fashion week, experienced its unique support when her late son Max was seriously ill. Fashion Week first started in 2006 and over the years it has become more and more ambitious. Esther added: “It is an example of the town all pulling together and showing visitors the many things we have to offer. “It has been so successful that we hope it will become an annual event.”

Spotlight on Red Hot Hairdressing at FICH+RAMOUS
Local talent will be on display at ‘Fashion Week’ ONE of the nice touches of Cowbridge Fashion Week is each year local people have acted as models for hair cuts, make-up and designer clothes available locally. As you can see from last year’s colourful catwalk parade (right and below) the women seem to have a natural flair for it. Organisers hope that if this year replicates the success of previous years, FashionWeek will become an annual event!
Red...Hot...Wednesday Red Hot celebrations for Fich & Ramous’ ‘Golden Boy’ WHAT better way to celebrate 50 years in the hairdressing industry than to open a brand new, red hot salon on Cowbridge’s Eastgate?
